The tranny with the lower dust boot removed seems to make a metallic, sort-of-grinding type noise. It's not really a grinding sound, per se, but almost a metal on metal sliding type of sound. Hard to describe...but the point is, that noise is not indicating anything is wrong with the tranny, it's just the way it sounds. If it's a gear-crunching type of noise, which is a lot harsher than the other noise I described, then you have a problem far beyond the dust boots and need to rebuild/replace the tranny probably. If the transmission place fixed the noise by replacing the dust boot, then it's probably the first scenerio. Just buy the dust boots from courtesy and install them yourself. You'll have to take off the center tunnel trim peices. And fitting the lower dust boot on the metal tunnel peice is a little tricky...it has a tight fit and you need to stretch the boot a little to get it to fit. But it's not too hard and is one of those things that you really shouldn't be paying a shop to do. Especially a shop that wants to charge you $60 for dust boots. Good luck, and I hope this helps.
